Travelers may present vaccination proof vaccine or negative Covid-19 test

The Brazilian federal government, published on 09/12/2022 the Interministerial Ordinance 678/2022, which changed the health rules for travelers entering Brazil due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Travelers can now choose to present vaccination proof or a negative test while entering the country.

The ordinance was signed by the ministers of the Justice, Health, Infrastructure, and the Chief of Staff, and it was published on Monday night (12) in the “Official Gazette”. This change is made according to the recommendation of the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

Previously, the federal government only required the presentation of a printed or electronic proof of a complete vaccination cycle, issued at least 14 days before departure.

New rules are already in effect

As of now, with these new rules, travelers will be able to choose between the following measures:

  • Present vaccination proof of the primary vaccination cycle, in printed or electronic format; or
  • Present a negative or non-detectable test result for Covid-19, such as an antigen test or RT-PCR test, carried out one day before boarding.

According to Anvisa, the measure simplifies the controls that exist today, as it allows any traveler to fulfill the necessary requirements.

“The recommendation is reiterated by a position from the WHO (World Health Organization), which emphasizes that policies for testing and quarantine should be reviewed regularly to ensure that they are suspended when they are no longer needed”, as the agency points out.
